The exam’s Comprehension Text

In America, the high academic standards, technology and specialization are the main attractions to the parent to send their children there. In general, it is amazing how fast Arab students adapt to life in the USA. At the beginning, when they first arrive, it seems hard for them to live in a different country and among people who speak a different language and who have a different culture.

‘At the beginning’, said Walid Al Khouri, an Arab student in Indiana State, ‘I faced what is called a culture shock. but little by little, I became familiar with American customs and I no longer felt a stranger in the USA’.

Khalid Mohamed, another Arab student, said,’ the Americans are very friendly people. Although I like them, I do not like to socialize much with them because they drink alcohol and my religion does not allow me to do so.’ On the other hand, the Americans at the beginning were hesitant about socializing with the Arab students. They were not sure whether the Arab students would like to mix with them; but surprisingly they did. ‘Arab students are interesting and good company. I learnt much from them and there is still more to be learnt,’ said Kay Durbin, an American.

While abroad, Arab students are good ambassadors of their own countries. In addition to gaining good education, they develop their personality more quickly there because they face responsibility and have to solve their problems themselves. They also love their countries more than before.
